Garip plays a signature role in the repertory of Marcat Dance.  Created in 2018, Choreographer Mario Bermudez Gil used this creation process to define and renovate his movement language for the company.  The trio is widely celebrated for its virtuosity, rhythm, dynamics, and powerful music by Mercan Dede. It was hailed winner of the first prize in choreography from Burgos-New York International Choreography Competition and received the ¨Best Dancer¨ Award from the Choreography Competition of Tetuan, Madrid. Garip is a wild, fanatical trio whose characters become a tribe of the same shadow. Bermudez Gil works closely with lighting designer Mamen BGil to play with the overshadowing and shading of each dancer – tracking closely, secretly, and almost magically behind every footstep. At times the entity becomes fully enveloped in shadow, and at times the audience is provoked to see that there is no shadow without the potency and power of light.
